Fuck what you heard or thought. This hear is a groove, my homegirl @jesskuss can attest to that for certain. In fact if you haven’t heard any of Miguel’s stuff prior to this, do yourself a favour and download his mixtape here, he’s on a solid pop/electro/r&b tip. Very refreshing….so yea, do act like you know and get with the programme.

Live in Effect: J.Cole “Losing My Balance” (Acoustic)
Not only is this one of my favourite tracks off his mixtape, “The Warm Up” but this performance of it is extra sweet. Sometimes keeping it simple and nice and stripped down brings out the best in a song.
*Note to self* get some smooth acoustic shit going.
Needless to say J.Cole is an astute Student of the Game, dude paints in depth stories about varied subject matter with maturity and pure skill.
This song has been a great comfort and reminder this week in particular, that despite the us and downs of this crazy world we gotta always strive to maintain balance. Only way to survive really.

Live in Effect: Stevie Wonder “Master Blaster” 1980
This one man I love watching perform. Everytime you see him play and sing, well at least for me personally, it reinforces that there are no limits in this world. No limits other than those that we set for ourselves. I don’t care what song he does, it all just comes out feeling real and alive. He writes the words as if he saw it, the only vision really worth anything in this world is how we feel and more importantly how we express that.
It doesn’t hurt that he mentions my home, Zimbabwe in this track. And yes Stevie, peace WILL come to Zimbabwe.

Live in Effect: Otis Redding “Try A Little Tenderness”
I love this man. I love this song. And more than anything I love this performance. Lots of people have sung this song, but none quite like Otis. I wanna know and own this man’s passion. I watch this video like everyday and try to figure it out. A true classic.
I believe classics are born and not made. I guess thats why I watch it so much, I wanna be a classic. But if I’m gonna be a classic, I’ve gotta already be one. So I guess I try to see the signs and if any of them are in me. Lord willing I got it.
This is footage of this great man’s last performance ever. Because less than 24hrs after this he died in a plane crash. Damn ! Its like he nailed it so hard that The Creator just said “Nah fuck it, we need that boy up here, they don’t deserve him down there”.
Mr. Redding, thank you and may you rest in peace.

Live in Effect: Kid Cudi “Pursuit of Happiness” on Conan
First up Conan is my favourite late night comedian, nah scrap that I love me some Letterman, but Conan is a nutcase so I’m down.
But I digress….
If there’s one thing I love most about Cudi’s performances, that I try to bring to my own, he’s not afraid to actually show you the emotion of the song he’s singing. You can see that he truly means every word he lets lose on you. And its a shame we don’t get to really see the crowd reacting to how this dude puts it down, but its plain to see that he really tries to make the connection. It doesn’t hurt that the song is truly amazing.
At the end of the day this dude’s easily one of the front runners of the new generation of hip-hop, pushing boundaries and bearing his soul. My kinda music.
