The Daily Dose: Can I Live ?

So this isn’t even due until like hours and hours from now, but I’m writing cos this is what I need right now. Therapy. And the keys on my Mac provide that.

I’m the kinda person who, while I love people and being around them and just getting to know em…I also just love being alone. In fact let’s call it alone, what I love just being around me.

Needless to say being on stage and at the club five nights a week I don’t get much of that. It also doesn’t help that I live with everyone I work with. Great people, don’t get me wrong, but it gets to be a bit much.

Cos’ with being around people you haven’t know for a long enough, you tend to not be super-free to be who you are, or at least I’m not. In fact I don’t even like being the me that I am in private round people I don’t know.

Why ?

Cos’ its hard to handle. You gotta take me doses or just really love me as a person. I tend to regress into this half-dickhead half-cynical bastard. I’m not saying I’m mean, I’m just saying I’m honest.

Now if I’m alone i get to be that person and put him in songs. I don’t do myself justice when I talk, or should I say in person. I’m a whole lot better in writing. Be it in song or just on this blog.

I don’t feel the pressure that comes with being in society, I just feel comfortable. There’s really only a handful of people who can handle me in my private funks and I love you for it (thats if you’re reading this of course).

Anyway, I just got off stage so I guess its time to put my happy face on and smile for the cameras. Mind you I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think we genuinely make people happy with what we do.

So yeah, this a new category I’m tryna introduce to the blog as well. All in the name of not making it directly all about me on here, but mixing it up and sharing artists that I follow and respect as well.

I really love finding interviews with artists I enjoy, that really give a little insight into their process or their mindstate. Basically just talking bout 5 things about himself. I really enjoyed this interview cos’ it really highlights what is so clear in his music….London is an individual. Laid back and cool.

If you only knew how long I’ve been waiting to watch this video. As far as I care Theophilus London is the absolute truth. Just super refreshing and full of the kinda energy this music industry needs.

I first heard him on the Machine Drum Remix of Solange’s “Sandcastles” and from there it was an absolute rap. Go ahead and enjoy this one and keep up to date on this game changer via his blog “This Charming Blog”

The Daily Dose: Anything But Coffee

In a word, “EXHAUSTED”. That’s the only way to describe the how I look and feel this Ladies’ Nigt. My body is actually mad at me. I haven’t been eating well lately, cos I foolishly partied this weekend instead of first buying groceries. A mistake that I shan’t be making again any time soon.

Thank fuck, I had the good sense to hide the money I’d kept for paying for the printing of my CD’s. Now to get them thoroughly sold and/or distributed before the time comes for me to leave.

But do it sooner rather than later cos I’ve been collecting emails from people for like the past month for this sole purpose.

Despite being tired today things have been going lovely. I’m blogging a heap and slowly but surely getting the hang of doing all my important things done first thing in the morning. Important things being, writing verses for songs and researching content for blog posts.

I’m hoping that by putting in all this work in now while I’m under an incredibly taxing schedule, when the time comes to head home (which’ll be soon) I’ll be even more productive with the extra time.

So here’s hoping. All in all though life is good. Got in touch with an old friend this week thanks to the wonder that is facebook. Also I’m pretty happy with where my head is at musically, I’m on track. At least I think so.

Now excuse me while I go hunting for a red bull, I contemplated going the coffee route, but I remember what that devil’s juice did to me last time. So ummm no….coffee can go right back to the hell it came from.

Live in Effect: Stevie Wonder “Master Blaster” 1980

This one man I love watching perform. Everytime you see him play and sing, well at least for me personally, it reinforces that there are no limits in this world. No limits other than those that we set for ourselves. I don’t care what song he does, it all just comes out feeling real and alive. He writes the words as if he saw it, the only vision really worth anything in this world is how we feel and more importantly how we express that.

It doesn’t hurt that he mentions my home, Zimbabwe in this track. And yes Stevie, peace WILL come to Zimbabwe.

The Blog Report: www.TheKaosEffect.com

Way back in March 2008, when I was still super wet behind the ears when it came to how to get the attention of other blogs and hopefully my music featured. So while in Cape Town I desperately emailed liked 30 different blogs. Out of all the emails I sent out only one blog got back to me, The Kaos Effect.

This blog became one that I would study and try and learn little things here and there to improve my own blogging. See its a blog about Atlanta hip-hop and lifestyle run by a fellow Emcee/Blogger by the name of Senor Kaos. All round cool dude with skills, hopefully we’ll get around to doing a track together.

For now though I’m kinda happy knowing he gave me my first blog feature. Here’s what he had to say.

Admittedly I don’t check the blog as much as I used to, but I’m always checking back to see whats new from Senor Kaos (be sure to check his mixtapes) and every now and again we holler on twitter. (@senorkaos)

The Daily Dose: The Coin Has Two Sides

Its official, my skin hates the beach. Thought I’d give myself some much needed rest and relaxation this weekend, by soaking up some Vitamin D and getting even more sand than usual stuck in my ears. Needless to say it was dope. Had me some great company and a fresh pack of 6 cold beers.

Hard to complain.

But as previously explained, the second I pay anything other than these musical endeavours attention, well these musical endeavours suffer. Only this time I’m not in a panic or upset. See cos the other side of that coin is that the second I put the attention back on the music it flourishes. So I’m calm in that knowledge.

This week should see some more changes and extra segments for the teeth of my few loyal blog readers to sink into.

Should be fun.

Also later today, cos its like 6am right now, I’m collecting the CD’s I was so eager to get pushed up. So my Singapore FAMbase you have that to look forward to this week. Decided to go with not just a CD of music but added some photos and videos for you lot as week. Just my way of tryna add a little value and thanking you for your support this past 7 months. WOW ! I’ve been here for that long already ? Hard to believe a little while before that I had no clue where I was going with this music after Australia, severe doubts in my ability and came oh so close to just quitting.

So the goal is to not end up in that mental or financial state again.

The Daily Dose: Losing My Balance

I am nothing if not shamelessly human. Or at least I sincerely aim to try and be. In my life. In the music I make that reflects my life. In the days that I mostly sleep through and in the night time when I gratefully shine bright. But as the great Andre 3000 said, being human’s hard on the boulevard.

The bright lights’ll blind you, the cheers and the jeers will leave you deaf. And the alcohol and the drugs will leave you numb and dumb. I can’t afford any of that. A lesson I have to keep repeating to myself because I forget. Thank fuck I do remember though.

All in all I love this life. I say that a lot because I mean it even more. I keep attracting amazing souls around me or maybe they attract me. Whatever the case may be I’m grateful.

Said goodbye to one this week, a smart young fella with an absolute lust for life. Taught me many things and I’m sure in the future I’ll be learning a whole lot more. Most of us aren’t really going anywhere in this world or this life, and if I’m one of them I’m just glad I got this far.

With that said though, failure is not an option. Its a concept I refuse to understand or believe in. Those I look up to in this business, in this pursuit of dreams, are all mere flesh and bones.

So the show must go on, I get stronger with every challenge and wiser with every mistake.
