The Daily Dose: Its Really Not All Fun & Games
So this is something I posted on my facebook page last night. Really just as a reminder to myself what my goals are for the year, but also to inform those who’re waiting for new music from that its actually on its way. Now my facebook page is linked to my twitter account and I got some responses from two of my fellow Zimbabwean MC’s, Synik and Prolific Jason. That looked a little something like this;
Naturally I responded, but there’s only so much one can do with 140 characters. So here’s the long version. While it may seem like a lot of work and a lot of releases for one year, its really not. I pride myself on constantly tryna compete with not just my peers, but I actuall listen to the Drakes, the J. Coles, the Cudi’s and the Ye’s and Hov’s of this world and want to be better than them too.
First and foremost of course my number one mission is to better myself, but in my mind I see it as if I’m playing with the big boys already. And I don’t think a lot of people realise just how much work these guys at the top do. A lot of us only see the glitz and glamour, but as the self-professed Student of the Game, I’m always looking deeper and tryna find the inside information. Hence why I do posts such as “The Inner-views”, because I look to see where I’m going right and where I’m going off.
I read constantly, to keep my mind creative and absorbing new ideas. I keep my eye on so many music marketing blogs its unbelievable. Simple because I want make sure I’m working harder than the next man and better equipped than the next man.
While I wish I was actually recording more music right now, I write every single day. I finish a song a day, whether its crap or amazing. I follow through to completion. Sometimes I miss a day, other times I’ll go on a spree and hit like a good three weeks in a row.
But all this is in the name of constant growth and improvement. I follow a lot of my favourite artists on twitter and when they say they’re writing, I go and pick up my pen and throw on a beat outta guilt.
Three releases in a year is really not where I wanna be, but its the minimum that I’m promising my you, my fambase. My actual goals are a lot higher, but i don’t want to make an empty promises. After all a brand is only as strong as the promises it keeps.
Anyway thats it for today, just thought I’d let you know where my heads at. And usually when you see posts that seem like I’m depressed or upset its more than likely cos’ the night before I partied when I know I shoulda written a new song.
I take this dream of mine very seriously. For myself and for those of you who care enough to support it.
