And so begins another one of my favourites….its close to me cos its probably one of my most honest and open tracks. I’m proud of it, plus its the first time I rep my home hard…

Okay i’m gonna share with you guys one of my biggest insecurities with pursuing music as a career…while I’ve always loved making music and just lived for performing…I never ever expected to be rapping. My heart was set on singing and songwriting….till according to most people I got “real nice with the words” and couldn’t just quit rap….but then my mum would always bug like “baby why dont you sing anymore” truth is I did still sing and I do….and yea I’m kinda nice with words…

So why not do them both ?

Cos you can’t serve two masters…thats what my boy Q. taught me. And for the longest time I fought the urge to do just that, till my mainest DownX whipped out this beat….and the hook just came outta me….and the words just hit the spot and I had to do it….so if you hear the original version of this track its got me singing the hook….but I’m no fool when you know talented kats like Jesse & Xy of RANDOM….you do the right thing and get the big guns involved.

So while I wrote it….Jesses sung it and Xy help get them harmonies right….one of the last things that I recorded for my mixtape was that chorus…cos I desperately wanted Jess on it….but we just couldnt get it together….then like the day b4 the nite we had to mix everything and send it to DJ Kronic to mix it….I hit up the Blackbeat Studios and they did their magic…

Good times. And I couldnt be happier. Mind you the track is nowhere near done. I’m gonna realise the full vision I had for it on my album.

Most of all I wanna try write this song to be the one that really reps for zim hard…..working on a remix with a bunch of up and coming Zim Mc’s that you aint never heard of so stay tuned in….dont zone out.

Get up to Get down.

It dawned on me today that despite the many obstacles in my way, I’m not really doing enough to overcome any of it. I think its cos’ I have a tendency to overwhelm myself with the negative. Which in turn makes me kinda get ahead of myself as far as seeing whats immediately in front of me and either side-stepping it or leaping over.

I dont know why this is the case….but this coming week I’m coming re-commit to figuring that out and DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I’ll let y’all know how that goes.

I’ve gotta be all the way real. I was never much of an NWA fan (so maybe i should be jumping out a window myself…hmmm)…in fact I’ve never been a big fan of the Westcoast in general when it came to rap….yep not even Pac. Like don’t get me wrong I respect his passion and straight up hip-hop poetry…but he just wasn’t for me…and i copped a lotta shit all my hip-hop years for that…but I stand by it…he just wasn’t talking to me.

I digress though….so the first time I heard this track though, I dug it immediately…just for the beat…its just such a groove and I can’t deny a groove.

Then when Statik Selektah reproduced that beat and Termanology got at it like last year….I was sold. So yeah I got the instrumental and got at it….And naturally I had to keep tradition alive and start with that classic line…

Its no secret to those who know me that I like to recycle and revamp my lines where I see fit…and this is one of those tracks that I have a vision for….I’ve got a sweet hook all lined up for it (not that Avery Storm didnt kill it with Rick Ross..but I got PLANS)…the track’s called Summer(Just Way Too Hot) and with any luck I’m gonna get Andre on it. Or I might just sing it myself….why not ?

Ode to the death of the suit and its accompanying ethos…YAY !!

Don’t know how the heck I’m so late on this jam, but it jumped out at me following my little “Fuck the suits” rant. now its my favourite joint…Im thinking I may hold a mock funeral for the business suit and everything it stands for, with this song playing in the background all day !!

The smartest thing any big ass money company ever did was “Casual Fridays” but even that was borderline douche. Dunno why nobody else sees it but if you spend years and years and years at school only to leave and find a job where you’re required to wear a tie round ya neck…

Thats too much like suicide for me sorry…walking round with a fancy noose chasing money.

The Wishlist – Paul Simon

For two reasons I’d love to work with this man.

1. I sung one of his and Garfunkel’s songs way back in the day when I still did eistedford’s and stuff…I think it was Scarborough Fair…yea I’m cool like that.

2. Cos’ of this track in particular.

I checked it out on like VH1 last night and I loved it. Especially cos in the video it starts with Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie laying it down….will BDK is laying it down and Biz is dropping the fresh beatbox.

Dunno why the fug I couldnt find the actual vid on youtube but hey its a dope track.

I wonder what Paul Simon is up to these days anyway and whether he’d even be up for working with a young dude outta Zim anyhow….in fact I think he would, he did that dope ass track with Ladysmith Black Mambazo…back in the day…in fact I think it was off his Graceland album.

My mom had the vinyl and me and my little sis used to bump that thing like shitty razor blades do my chin….GOOD TIMES.

I initially copped a little flack from the “real heads” over spitting on this beat. But being the suburban urban wordsmith I am…I said fuck it…lets rattle the cage a little….so I did.

Its kinda early in the game as far as my career and you getting to know me as an artist are concerned but i thought this’d be a good track to let you in on a few things about ME….TehN Diamond.

In my music & in my career as a whole….this is assuming I end up with a career….I want people to know that I’m aiming to stand for just honest and musical music. I used to have delusions of massive radio-play and top 40 magic….but once i actually started writing and got down to the nitty-gritty of finding who I am…or at least who I want to be…I realised I really didnt give a shit…I wanna reach people..people like me…people who can relate…people unafraid to live,love and enjoy…everything that comes with life….from the sad to the bad…the ups and downs….the good shit….the great shit….wateva makes us human.

All the flash and bling-bling really aint me. Cos like the Strong Arm Steady told me “Money Dont Make You Rich”

So yeah honesty and reality….thats what I’m tryna stand for and that’ll never change. And I guess its up to me, but also up to you folk as “fans” to help keep it that way.

With that said though.. HOW I do things….and actually go about being honest and being real in my music….that’ll always change. Gotta warn ya though I hit the lab with TAGZ and we cooked up a new beat for this joint, one that kinda carries the sentiment a little better. You’ll see and hopefully love it too.

I hate it. The damn thing represents so much of what I friggin hate about home. Everybody’s bout their money. And I dont just mean H. I mean Africa in general. In fact its most of the world aint it…

If we stopped bigging it up so much maybe a couple other billion people would eat a little better every once in a while. Greed exists with or without money, I think its just a human thing…but for damn sure money makes it worse. Ever since gold. Why cant we just share shit more better ?

Ridiculous.

The suit is single-handedly breaking backs and taking names.

Fair enough money is a necessary evil. But why do we have so much respect for it. Now money’s tryna tell me I can make music without his punk ass….gimme a break. Sure it’d be way more breey, but look where that got Breezy.

And much as I’d love to SUIT UP with the best of ‘em (shout to B. Stinson)….it’d just break my soul at this point. And I need my damn soul. Its where the songs settle before I sing em.

Keep that in mind as u read, why and how I ended up just going the music route….and not the BCom graduate route…

Now listen I don’t really know what its like where you’re from, but know whats it like in Zimbabwe. If you’re privilleged enough to be able to afford school..you go.Then you go to primary school. Then you go to high school. I went to St. George’s College in Harare.

Two years in you get your ZJC (maybe not)…then two years later your get your O’Levels (maybe not)…then another two years later you get your A’Levels.

Now what happens after this if your a good God-fearing….parent pleasing young boy or girl….you generally go out into he world and you get your degree. What do you get your degree in ?

Well naturally, you get it in something respectable…something thats gonna guarantee your future and make your folks proud.

You do not…I repeat DO NOT under any any circumstances suggest to your parents as I did….that despite getting A’Levels in Management of Business, Accounting & Economics that you would like to go out there and spend their heard earned money studying a Perfoming Arts Degree….RIDICULOUS !!

Get the picture. So I went off and did Finance. But I made sure i did it far far away so I could at least get me some life experience. I ended up in sunny Brisbane,Australia. At the time my big dream was becoming an actor…..then it became songwriter…..then ummm…I ended up a rapper (huh?)..check the about me section for that story though.
So after a few semesters and just meeting people from all over the world, studying or sorts of stuff I learnt that a huge number of the people I met were studying one thing to appease someone else….after which they would work….save some money up….and finally chase their true passion…..a global crisis if you ask me.

I’m not the biggest fan of the dream deferring mentality most of society has….life is too short…we act like we KNOW we have 4 eva when in reality we only have today…not even that…we only really have RIGHT NOW….so yea thats how this verse came about…
